It harkens back to efforts in the 1960s to amend the U.S. Constitution to thwart socially liberal decisions from the U.S. Supreme Court.

Prohibit Congress from regulating something that only happens in one state.

· Prohibit administrative agencies-and the unelected bureaucrats that staff them-from creating federal law.

Prohibit “administrative agencies” from preempting state law.

Further, it would allow U.S. Supreme Court decisions to be overridden by a two-thirds majority of states.

“Restore the balance of power between the federal and state governments by limiting the former to the powers expressly delegated to it in the Constitution”.

Under Article 5 of the Constitution, calling a constitutional conventional requires the support of the legislatures in two-thirds of the states.

The majority of the amendments directly contradict the very spirit of the U.A. Constitution (particularly the Supremacy Clause and the notion that the Supreme Court exists to safeguard against the “tyranny of the majority”).

“The president took action that threatens Second Amendment rights, even though the entire point of the Bill of Rights was to protect Americans from invasions of their liberties”, Abbott said in his prepared remarks.

“Until we fix the foundation by restoring the rule of law in this nation”, Abbott said, “the repairs that we seek through the policies you propose will never lead to lasting solutions”.

It also immediately takes a swipe at Rep. Nancy Pelosi, quoting albeit not naming her, in a House procedural discussion on Obamacare.

“One of the things I’m going to do on my first day in office is I will put the prestige and power of the presidency behind a constitutional convention of the states”, Rubio said in Iowa.

A few of the other amendments seem either somewhat redundant (the Tenth Amendment already covers all of the ground that Abbott’s seventh item does) or vague to the point of meaninglessness (what does it mean for a federal official to “overstep their bounds”?).

The goal, according to Abbott, is to limit the power of the federal government, and give more power to the states.

“The number of states have to come together, ban together, demanding an Article V convention that’s guaranteed under the constitution”, Henneke said. GOP presidential candidate Marco Rubio, a US senator from Florida, called for a constitutional convention in an op-ed published Wednesday in USA Today.
