Rock Band gets bands on the games bandwagon
Band shop. The Rock Band Network Music Store has rolled up its shutters for the first time to give Rock Band gamers access to get their hands on music from a raft of artists. The Rock Band Network, launched last summer by Harmonix and MTV Games, gives musicians, publishers and labels the ability to author their recordings into gameplay files to promote and sell as playable Rock Band tracks via the store.
“The Rock Band Network Music Store gives artists at any level the opportunity to reach new fans through our deeply engaging interactive platform,” said Paul DeGooyer, svp of electronic games and Music for MTV Networks Music Group. “This new pathway for discovery is a huge win for passionate music fans, as well as an opportunity for artists to promote themselves while positively impacting their bottom line.”
There are currently more than 100 songs available for purchase in the store, including tracks from the likes of The Shins, The Hold Steady, The Main Drag and Bang Camaro. And music from Flight of the Conchords, The Smashing Pumpkins, Twin Atlantic, All That Remains, Clutch, Prong, The Gaslight Anthem is in the pipeline.
Since the Rock Band Network open beta was launched in January, more than 4,300 new users have registered as authors and peer reviewers on Creators.RockBand.com, the website where songs are submitted before they are approved to be sold.
T-Mobile has signed on as launch partner of the Rock Band Network to develop an Artist Of The Month feature, starting next month, to help fans identify and connect with new talent in the Rock Band Network.
