Coke Studio’s musical dreams and hopes

  • Sharebar

coke_studioIt’s time to take a look at Coke Studio. Now in its third season, the primetime Coca-Cola sponsored TV show runs across a raft of Pakistani channels playing anything from Sufi to rock & roll. It has had serious objectives from the off, though.

“Where Coke Studio One centred on the philosophy of peace and harmony and the appreciation of live music recording, Coke Studio Two was about the Pakistani identity and unity and celebrating individuality,” the show’s producers say. “In the third season, we come full circle, but widen the same to encompass all identities as well as be circumspect and retrospect about our own journey – how dreams and goals are created and realized.”

The Season Three website is right here, featuring artists such as Abida Parveen, Entity Paradigm, Meesha Shafi, Noori and more.

Coke Studio has also launched the face2face mobile app which enables users to get songs and videos on their mobile phones. It’s pretty sociable too, letting owners know which of their friends are in the same hood. Chat is free via face2face’s IM which works on most smartphones, and friends can be messaged from Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace.

Plus there are reports that Coke Studio producers are also in talks with the Tines Group of India to take the format over the border…
