Hunting Gaga with the QR

The coffee brand yesterday marked the launch of Lady Gaga’s new album, Born This Way, with an artist takeover of the Starbucks Digital Network together with Yahoo. Giveaways included a limited number of downloads for her new track The Edge of Glory to the first Starbuckers to claim them.


Dial a mobile disc

Picture 1By Steve Mullins. Swedish mobile brand Comviq partnered with ad agency Forsman & Bodenfors to launch a new service enabling users to replace their ringback tone with music.

To promote the offering, Universal Music was added to the mix, and artist Veronica Maggio exclusively released her new single Välkommen In as a ringback tone on a single phone number only. For just two weeks, the only way to hear the track single was to call +46 739 52 50 06.


Mobile makes music money

Especially among digital music’s early adopter 20 to 24 year-old segment, the mobile phone is fast becoming the mainstay of how they stay connected to the world, and how they listen to, and increasingly buy, music. Almost one in four of this demographic globally indicate they would be prepared to pay to download music videos on their mobile phone.


Sideways through rock history

sidewaysBy Mark Terry. Digital media outfit Sideways and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum have released the first Rock and Roll Hall of Fame application for the iPad and iPhone.

The app features more than 600 songs and includes a multimedia slideshow allowing users to swipe through the music decades since 1920.


Remixing Bowie’s Golden app

bowieBy Mark Terry. David Bowie and EMI have released the Golden Years app for the iPhone. Users will be able to get their hands on the 16 original multi-tracks to remix them and create their own versions of the album, and then share them with friends.

EMI_appEMI Music’s creative team has launched an iPad app for Swedish House Mafia’s Until One album. In the app, fans can flick, swipe, slide and tap their way though an audiovisual narrative account of life in Swedish House Mafia.
