A Glimps into crowdsourced music
The Glimps are using Facebook to get fans’ input for their musical works-in-progress.
The Gallic electronic/dance/pop band posted three versions of the first track of a planned CD on the social networking site last week and followers can vote on the songs and provide feedback until mid-September, when The Glimps will take those views back into the studio to cut the final track. The band will repeat the crowdsourcing process three more times until they have four completed songs.
The band will also garner online opinion to name all the tracks and design the CD artwork.
The test tracks – which will also be posted on Reverbnation – will run for just 30 seconds but anyone signing up to The Glimps’ mailing list will get full streaming access, which the band says is way of maintaining a ‘special relationship’ with fans.
“We should be able to complete one track each month, with a goal of four finalized tracks and artwork by December, and a complete debut CD ready by June, 2011,” says Aslem Smida, the band’s manager and producer.
